Senator Dan Rutherford

Dan Rutherford was elected to the Senate in 2002, having served in the House of Representatives since 1993, most recently as Assistant Republican Leader.

In the Senate, he serves as Republican spokesman for the Financial Institutions Committee and as a member of the Labor & Commerce and Environment & Energy Committees.

Senator Rutherford is also a member of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, the Legislative Space Needs Commission, and the Private Equity Task Force.

Rutherford's background in public service and employment in the private sector brings a unique variety of experience to this office. From student body president at Illinois State University to his work in international business and as a local leader, he has earned a reputation as a strong advocate for working families and seniors.

Senator Rutherford is committed to his constituents and the communities in which they live. He is an avid conservationist, helping preserve the environment through using recycling programs for his home and offices. The Senator personally planted over 10,000 trees and shrubs on his own property in addition to utilizing stream bank stabilization practices.

Another way he is involved in the community is through his association with multiple organizations, including: Chamber of Commerce, Adventurer's Club, Sigma Tau Gamma Alumni, County Farm Bureau, Illinois Corn Growers Association, Elk's Club, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, National Rifle Association, A.B.A.T.E. of Illinois, and Chicago / Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors.

Rutherford graduated from Illinois State University. From there, he served as Legislative Aide for Representative Tom Ewing, worked under the Thompson administration with the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and finally went into business for himself. Currently, he is Vice President, International for the ServiceMaster Company.
