Senator John O. Jones
John O. Jones was elected to the Illinois Senate in 2002, having served in the House of Representatives since 1995.
He currently serves as Republican spokesman for the Senate Agriculture & Conservation Committee and is a member of the Transportation and Local Government committees. He is also a member of the Clean Coal Review Board and is vice chairman of the Senate Republican Task Force on Veterans.
As a lawmaker, Jones was a lead sponsor of landmark senior citizen prescription assistance legislation to expand the Circuit Breaker program by increasing the income eligibility requirements.
He also sponsored an education reform bill creating a base level funding for each student and passed comprehensive legislation to revitalize the coal industry in Illinois.
Senator Jones is a strong advocate for township government, school construction funding and ethanol promotion.
Previously he served on the Bluford School Board for eight years, serving as president for four of those years.
Senator Jones is a member of the North East Water District Board, the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
Senator Jones graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force before starting Jones Trucking Service, a business he has run for the past 35 years.
Senator Jones and his wife, Mimi, have two adult children.
